The Door in the Floor

The Gist: A summer in the life of a wealthy couple, whose marriage has hit the skids. They seem to still care for one another on some level, but the chasm is too wide to cross. One day, the husband hires a young guy to be his assistant, who will ultimately bring a much needed jolt to their relationship.

The Door in the Floor was a very interesting movie to watch. The downward spiraling marriage of the couple and their interactions with the new assistant are engaging enough, but when the reason for their marital problems is finally revealed, it's like a punch to the stomach.

Jeff Bridges, Kim Basinger, and Jon Foster are perfectly cast, and even little Elle Fanning shines as the little girl caught in the middle.

The Bottom Line: This is a really, really good movie that has clearly been overlooked (I can't believe it doesn't have a better rating on IMDb). I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. It will stay with you long after you've watched it.
