45 Years

The Gist: On the eve of a couple's 45th wedding anniversary, a letter causes long buried memories to resurface, resulting in a rift in an otherwise happy marriage.

Best Lead Actress Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling is riveting in the part of a woman who feels betrayed by the ghost of a long dead former girlfriend of her husband's, and who feels like the future has been ripped from under her feet.

Tom Courtenay is equally brilliant as the faithful husband who is suddenly reminded of how much he cared for another woman, long ago, and of what could have been.

The Bottom Line: 45 Years perfectly sets up the scenario of a couple settling into their twilight years and suddenly seeing their relationship shaken to its foundations. A very good film.
