Promising Young Woman

THE GIST
: Cassie seems to lead a rather aimless existence during the day, transforming in a laser-focused man-eater at night. This cycle seems to be related to some traumatic event in her past, but all seems to change after a chance encounter with an old acquaintance.

Promising Young Woman is the brainchild of triple threat writer/director/producer Emerald Fennell, who received an Oscar nomination for each one of those roles and took home the prize for Best Original Screenplay -- well deservedly I might add.

The film was also nominated for its Editing as well as for Best Lead Actress for Carey Mulligan, who gives a performance for the ages; certainly some of her best work.

Of note is also Bo Burnham, who plays her love interest and is absolutely adorable. He's the writer/director of Eight Grade, a really good movie if you haven't seen it.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Hands down one of the finest among this year's Best Picture nominees. This is a must-see.

Grade: 9
