Falling Skies

The final season of this clever sci-fi show delivers the goods in terms of bringing closure to the fans.

After having delivered a major blow to the Espheni by blowing up their power generation operation on the Moon at the end of season 4, Tom Mason and the 2nd Mass, with the help of the Volm, are on the move to strike the final blow and rid Earth of its invaders.

Unfortunately, the Espheni still have the strength to retaliate, and in their desperation seem to resort to a scorched earth approach by using anything at their disposal, including new biological weapons.

Once again, Mason & Co. will have to figure out who can be trusted and who is, willingly or not, working with the enemy.

Mason and Pope's rivalry will also reach new heights, with a final showdown all but inevitable.

The gorgeous Noah Wyle delivers more impressive performances as the series comes to an end, shouldered by an eclectic and substantial cast of supporting players like Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy, Will Patton, Sarah Carter, Connor Jessup, and Colin Cunningham.

Well written scripts (with the occasional subpar plot detours), good acting, and impressive makeup and visual effects (for a television series on a minor cable channel like TNT) defined a television series that had its ups and downs, but that overall provided more ups and certainly a good level of entertainment.

That said, I'm glad the showrunners didn't attempt to stretch it much longer, because after five seasons the originality had pretty much been exhausted. Still, if you're a sci-fi fan, I'd recommend it.

Grade - Season 5: 7
