Game of Thrones

Any fan of Game of Thrones will not be disappointed by season 5 of George R.R. Martin's oeuvre. It delivers more shocking moments, more intrigue, more battles, more betrayals, more game changing events, in short, more of everything, just like we're used to expect by now.

[Spoilers in this paragraph]
Tyrion and Varys escape King's Landing together, but their paths will separate for a while before reuniting at the end of the season. Tyrion eventually meets Daenerys (an event not in the books from what I've heard) and their scenes are epic. Daenerys faces insurrection and continued attempts on her life as she tries to rule a city teeming with people who hate her. Her dragons also take on a larger role, finally. Back in King's Landig meanwhile, Margaery, now Queen, flexes her muscles over Cersei, who makes a move against House Tyrell to gain more power that ultimately backfires with tremendous consequences. Arya finds it difficult to stick to her training to become "no one." Jon Snow ends up the new leader of the Night's Guard while the White Walkers push forward south. Sansa grows up and turns darker, but eventually she ends up in the lion's den, thanks to Littlefinger's maneuvers. Stannis, assured by Melisandre that his divine right to the throne can only mean total victory, bets everything he has left after several setbacks and pays a hefty price.

For those of you who read the previous paragraph, that's only a portion of what happens, so strap on your seatbelts... it's gonna be a bumpy ride!

Obviously, I recommend this series to anyone, not just fantasy lovers, because its themes are universal, the scripts are great, and the acting superb. Its locales are also fantastic and the many intricate parts are made to dance around one another in the most masterful and perfectly choreographed ballet.

Grade - Season 5: 10
