As feared, my cold got worse. Can't wait to go to bed tonight.

Yesterday, one of the astronauts aboard Discovery, Stephen Robinson, was able to fix a problem outside the orbiter, something that had never been done before. I was listening to AirAmerica's Morning Sedition and they were making fun of the fact that he was using tools like plyers and such to fix the most sofisticated piece of technology ever created by man.

I didn't find it funny. At all.

First of all, the whole crew might be in danger if the problem isn't fixed or if there are others (and we recently lost a Shuttle, so we're not talking hypotetically here.)

Second, I never tried fixing something in space, and no one has EVER tried to do what was done yesterday, so I don't care if he had to use a dustpan or a toothpick, it's still worthy of respect (and awe, since everything worked well.)

Finally, the Shuttle's launch had already been postponed and delayed countless times. Should we have waited maybe 5 more years in order for NASA to develop cool Star Trek looking tools for them to work with? I think not.

And today I just read that there might be more problems to fix before giving the go ahead for reentry next Monday.

I just hope everything works well. They already grounded all flights for the future, even though so far everything seems to be going well. Losing another orbiter would mean the end of the shuttle program (even though it's virtually over already,) and would deal a deadly blow to the American space agency.
