Amid last week's unusualness because of Fabrizio's visit, I forgot to post about the successful re-enty of the Shuttle Discovery. It came back to Earth a day late due to some bad weather in Florida, and had to land at night (which is harder and more dangerous) in California, but everything went well and the crew is safe and well.

Last week NASA also successfully launched yet another unmanned mission to Mars, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, the largest orbiter so far. Circling the planet for at least four years after arriving in March 2006, the orbiter is to provide unparalleled information on Mars' weather, climate, and geology, which could aid possible future human exploration of the Red Planet.

Overall, a very good week for space exploration.
