Michael Brown, head of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) had this to say when asked why he didn't prepare for the event that a big storm hit somewhere in the US:
"We work closely with the state government. The federal government did not just come in here and tell the state governor how or what to do. We came in here and said, 'What do you want us to do? We will help you.' We are now taking it upon ourselves to do what we think needs to be done. And we will continue to do that."So the head of the federal agency in charge of emergency management had no intention of taking charge until an emergency had happened and the local authorities were overwhelmed? He was asking the local authorities what they wanted them to do? This emergency hit three different states, which automatically makes it a federal problem. He should have taken control of the situation from the get-go.
The guy should be fired. Immediately. Things couldn't possibly get much worse without him in charge (he isn't leading anyway.) Instead, I'm sure Bush will give him a promotion. Maybe an ambassadorship.
