Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers

THE GIST: After spending ten years in a coma, Michael Myers suddenly wakes up when he overhears the news that he has a niece. He's immediately driven to kill her and anyone standing in his path.

After the disaster that was Halloween III, the producers wisely decided to completely ignore it and snuck Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers in the timeline following the events of Halloween II.

That's where the good news sort of ends, because this installment only really dishes out more nonsense. Even buying into the "he's some sort of demon" explanation only gets you so far, because the only superpower he seems to be having is not dying. Ever. Not even in the blowup explosion at the end of chapter two.

So here you get more dumb males who carelessly walk into danger ignoring all warnings, and more dumb females who either scream and are killed or start running away and are killed. The stereotypes abound; indiscriminately.

Oh, you also get a bunch of wannabe-vigilantes who think they got what it takes to bring down Michael. As if!

I will say that the way the movie ends, while in a way convenient, is also genial, as it sets up a way of continuing the Myers saga.

THE BOTTOM LINE: If you've come this far into it, chances are you're a die-hard fan of Halloween, and you're probably enjoying the sequels more than I did. Don't worry then, more follow...
