Halloween: the Curse of Michael Myers

THE GIST: Saved/abducted by the man-in-black, who leads a cult of the occult, Michael and Jamie have been used to make a baby of pure evil. Who will stand in their way?

Halloween: the Curse of Michael Myers represents the final sequel in the series's first run; everything coming after this goes back in time.

Unfortunately, while the producers might have earnestly desired to offer up some explanation for Michael Myers's drive to murder, their efforts fall short.

Sure, Dr. Loomis always held that Myers is simply pure evil. Sure, they reveal who the man-in-black is. Sure, an ancient curse afflicting Myers would explain his murderous instincts. But everything feels very trite and excessive. It's just asking too much of the audience at this point.

Frankly, the franchise by now has overstayed its welcome. It feels old and stale. It needs reinvention, and this plot doesn't do it any favors.

THE BOTTOM LINE: If you're still watching by now, you're clearly enjoying yourself; or you just watch in disbelief; or because you just want to know how bad it can get. I get it. I was curious about the franchise too, and followed along. The good news is, it can only get better. Right? Right?!
