Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers

THE GIST: A year after unsuccessfully trying to kill his niece Jamie, Michael Myers heads back to Haddonfield to give it another try. Jamie, meanwhile, is in a hospital, unable to speak, after killing her adoptive mother a year earlier. She and her uncle seem to have a telepathic link that allows them to communicate.

A new heroine, the niece Jamie, was introduced in Halloween 4 and is back in Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, a sequel that really seems to have been made haphazardly, with the only motive being greed.

The mental link between the uncle and niece was never explored in chapter four, so here it looks like the only way to justify Jamie's potential evilness or her continued presence in the series.

Michael is conveniently put into another coma after escaping yet another shootout and explosion (seems like he just sleeps in between sequels); during said coma, he is so lucky to be found and cared for by a hermit, who apparently has enough resources for himself and a random stranger, and thinks nothing of all the injuries on this man's body; and the coma ends, very fortunately, 364 days later, just in time for another Halloween celebration.

Is it even worth bothering to mention the countless morons who die stupidly? Or the introduction of a mysterious man-in-black, who swoops in at the end to ensure yet another sequel?

THE BOTTOM LINE: Don't let the slight improvement in grade from episode four fool you, it's really only because this sequel isn't as bad as the previous. But it's still pretty lame.

Grade: 4
