Last Christmas

THE GIST: Kate works in a year round Christmas store and dreams of becoming a singer. She's very outgoing and has tons of friends, but her carefree ways often end up upsetting people. Her relationship with her family is strained for similar reasons. One day, she meets Tom, who seems to bring out the best in her. Is he too good to be true?

Last Christmas is a cute little comedy that doesn't try to be more than it is. And that is why ultimately I found it very enjoyable.

Emilia Clarke, in her first major role since wrapping up Game of Thrones, shows her comedic chops and they're quite good. Henry Golding is just as adorable here as he was in Crazy Rich Asians, so if you enjoyed that, you'll like him here as well.

As is often the case, though, two supporting players steal the show: Michelle Yeoh as the store owner who puts up with Kate's idiosyncrasies, and Emma Thompson as Kate's overbearing mother.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Don't watch any trailers (it might spoil the ending) and go into it with an open mind. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
