Room

The Gist: A woman and her son live captive in a small room. She was kidnapped by the man who later fathered her son. All the child knows in the world is this room and his mom, until she decides to try to break them free.

Room is a very small movie when compared to what comes out of the Hollywood studios nowadays, but it has a very big heart. It starts quite slow, but the pacing is clearly intended and with good reason.

The mother and son duo are played to perfection by Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay. Larson won a heap of awards for this role, including an Academy Award for Best Leading Actress, and they were all well deserved.

Joan Allen and William H. Macy also star, and are as good as ever.

The Bottom Line: One of 2015's Best Picture Oscar contenders, Room is a great movie that will make your heart leap many times, and will ultimately stay with you for a long time.
