The Witch

The Gist: A close-knit and deeply religious family is tested and torn apart by the forces of evil that lurk in the woods surrounding their farm.

Having read that The Witch was one of the best horror movies to hit the big screen in a while, I decided to give it a go. It's certainly well made and delivers in terms of scares and mystery, but I'm sure glad I watched it on DVD because without subtitles I wouldn't have understood more than three words.

Anya Taylor-Joy, here on her silver screen debut, reveals herself a very promising young actress.

The Bottom Line: If you like horror movies, this is a good one to check out. Be aware that it's hard to understand because it's spoken in very old (as in 17th century) English.
