A War

The Gist: A commander disregards a mandate to verify the target and orders an air strike on a compound in a village in Afghanistan where he and his company have come under heavy enemy fire. The strike results in many civilian casualties, a possible war crime. This causes the commander to be recalled to Denmark and put on trial, where he will have to defend his actions.

Nominated for a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, A War is a pretty raw examination of the complicated situations the military routinely finds itself in and of one's duty to family and morality in a time of need.

The Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend this film. It's well written, well directed, and well acted.

Grade: 7
