Disobedience

THE GIST
: Shunned and banished by her orthodox Jewish community back in Britain for her attraction to a female childhood friend, Ronit made a life for herself in New York City. Informed that her rabbi father has passed away, she flies back to London for the funeral. Few welcome her arrival, though, her transgression neither forgotten nor forgiven. An old friend invites her to stay with his family, and Ronit is shocked to discover his wife is the young girl she once loved. Is their mutual attraction still smoldering after all this time?

Disobedience is a movie that focuses on a forbidden love and what a religion's intolerance will do to it. It's quite infuriating to see the strife that religious constructs created by men will cause to people whose only crime is to love one another.

The entire cast is excellent, with Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams, and Alessandro Nivola turning in fantastic performances.

THE BOTTOM LINE: A really beautiful love story, a complicated situation to be in, the bigotry and prejudices of the people around you; all of those elements mixed together make for a compelling tale.
