Booksmart

THE GIST: Overachievers Amy and Molly are best friends, excellent students, and about to graduate high school, when they realize they've been too focused on academic excellence at the expense of having some degree of fun. So they decide to jam four years of fun in one night.

The concept at the heart of Booksmart is not something we haven't seen before, but the script is well written and Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein are excellent.

This is Olivia Wilde's feature directorial debut, and it's clear she has a winner. Of note is also the supporting turn by Skyler Gisondo.

THE BOTTOM LINE: The movie had me laugh out loud a few times and the charms of the leading ladies will win you over for sure.
