THE GIST: The evil Lord Business finds a super weapon that might allow him to finally "bring order" to his world. The wizard Vitruvius fails to stop him and prophesies that the Special will one day succeed where he failed by using the Piece of Resistance.Given the success of animated movies at the box office, plenty of toys and games have gotten the cinematic treatment, hoping to strike gold. The Lego Movie falls straight into that category and has had plenty of success, including sequels, and yet I didn't really enjoy it.
It is extremely rare that I don't find animated movies at least passable, but something about this particular one just didn't work for me. I can't really even say what that is, other than maybe it just felt like they were trying too hard. I don't know.
THE BOTTOM LINE: Whatever the reason may be, I found this movie a bit boring and unoriginal, so much so that I've actually stayed away from any follow up.
