Freaks

The Gist: In a traveling circus with the most varied sideshow freak acts, a beautiful trapeze artist pretends to fall in love with a midget in order to marry him, kill him, and inherit his money. Although alerted to her plans, he is blinded by his love for her, and goes ahead with the wedding. At the reception, she inadvertently drops her mask though, and openly mocks and disparages the circus' freaks, who decide to band together to teach her a lesson.

Tod Browning's Freaks impressed me a lot more than I had expected it to. The plot is solid, the casting excellent, and the acting very good.

The Bottom Line: Freaks is a movie I had never heard of, and you probably haven't either, but the story is bewitching and ultimately you cannot look away. Do not underestimate it.
