The Gist: Determined to find proof that his former employer stole from him some of its bestselling video games, Flynn tries to hack into the company's mainframe, only to be thwarted by the Master Control Program in charge of the whole system. The MCP forcibly uploads Flynn into the mainframe by breaking down his molecules. Now Flynn experiences a world where the MCP is in full control and rules ruthlessly. He will have to join forces with an independent system security program called Tron in order to destroy the MCP and return to the real world.
Produced by Disney back in 1982,
Tron was revolutionary for its day and, though underwhelming at the box office, it garnered a rabid following and eventually
got a sequel (28 years later!!).
The Bottom Line: Starring
Jeff Bridges,
Tron is a fairly enjoyable movie with an original plot that is certainly interesting. The visual effects, while rudimentary by today's standards, surely caused an uproar at the time.
Grade: 6
