Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

The Gist: A young Abraham Lincoln witnesses his mother being slayed by what he will learn to be a vampire. Years later he tries to avenge his mother, but her killer escapes, and Lincoln meets Henry Sturges, who teaches him how to kill vampires. Lincoln becomes a vampire hunter and when his political career takes him to the White House as president of the nation, he will take on the Confederacy and the vampires who fight for them.

I feared this might turn out to be a dud, but I was intrigued by the vampire theme, which I'm a big fan of, so I decided to check out Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. And that was a mistake.

A movie about one of the greatest Presidents in American history and one of the most legendary figures who ever lived would certainly be interesting (see Spielberg's Lincoln). A movie about vampires can turn out to be good, but it might also just suck. Put the two genres together and something pretty bad apparently comes out. Who would have thought...

Benjamin Walker and Dominic Cooper do a fairly good job and are not too shabby in the looks department by the way...

The Bottom LineAbraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is not a movie I would recommend. It comes across as rather stupid and ultimately has nothing to add to the story of Lincoln the president or to the vampire canon. Do yourself a favor and skip it.
