Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

The Gist: A gonzo journalist is tasked with covering a sporting event in Las Vegas. He sets out with his crazy lawyer friend on a road trip across America with his convertible and a huge stash of various drugs in the trunk. They both drink and take drugs constantly, and the ensuing hallucinations color their view of the world while they start chasing after an elusive "American Dream."

Once again, a character that allows Johnny Depp to go off the rails, chew the scenery, and showcase his off-the-wall acting abilities. I cannot think of a more apt actor for such an insane role.

Unfortunately, I did not like the movie. I found it weird, which it undoubtedly is, and is meant to be, but not in a good way. I'm not a big fan of camp or gratuitous wackiness, and this movie carries both in spades.

Perhaps, the audience is supposed to be high as well when watching Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

The Bottom Line: I like Johnny Depp, even in the crazy roles he often plays, but this movie just didn't do it for me. It's really up to you if you wanna give it a try, but I wouldn't recommend it.
