Florence Foster Jenkins

THE GIST: Florence Foster Jenkins is a well-known New York City heiress and socialite. She loves art, especially music and opera, and always dreamed of becoming an opera singer, even though she has no remarkable voice nor any talent for singing whatsoever, two facts seemingly unbeknownst to her. Her loving husband, aware of her delusion, shields her from any criticism and encourages her fantasies, knowing they make her happy and are harmless. One day, she decides to start taking singing lessons in order to eventually perform in concert at the famed Carnegie Hall.

Florence Foster Jenkins is your quintessentially quirky comedy that carries a bit more heft for the simple fact of being based on actual people and true events.

Meryl Streep is absolutely fantastic as the wannabe opera singer, expertly mangling any tune she sings in spite of being a very good singer herself. She was rewarded with a Best Lead Actress Oscar nomination for her work here.

Hugh Grant is his dashing self, flanked by Simon Helberg and Rebecca Ferguson.

THE BOTTOM LINE: A fun comedy that won't be everyone's cup of tea, but a must-see for any Streep fan like myself. And to think that Jenkins's concert actually happened!!
