A Simple Favor

THE GIST: Widowed mother Stephanie befriends sophisticated, but secretive and mysterious, Emily because their kids go to the same school. One day, Emily asks Stephanie to pick up her kid from school and then disappears, to the dismay of her husband Sean and Stephanie herself. The latter, perturbed by the situation and by police inaction, takes it upon herself to investigate. Soon, dark and mysterious secrets start coming to the fore.

A Simple Favor is an intriguing mystery/thriller with a well-developed script that rests entirely, and beautifully, on the shoulders of its two leading ladies, Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively.

Both actresses have great talent and are perfectly cast. Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Rupert Friend, and Linda Cardellini round up the cast.

THE BOTTOM LINE: I was greatly entertained by the many layers making up this capers that are slowly shed to reveal a shocking end. Very nice indeed.
