Idiocracy

THE GIST: A rather ordinary private is selected by the US military for a secret test project that involves a year-long hibernation procedure, but the ensuing scandal shuts the project down so quickly that the guy is forgotten and wakes up five centuries later. He then realizes that society as a whole has dumbed down so much that he's now the smartest person alive. Consequently, he's tasked with helping to solve the most pressing issues of the time, primarily saving the failing crops and related food shortages. Will he ever be able to return to his time?

Idiocracy is a seemingly idiotic comedy that manages to hold on to a kernel of cleverness while also delivering a few laughs.

Luke Wilson is the hero here, flanked by Maya Rudolph, Dax Shepard, and Terry Crews.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Not memorable by any means but it does make one wonder, Is society actually growing stupider? Watch and ponder.
