The Edge of Seventeen

THE GIST: Nadine is an ordinary high-school junior, enduring the usual life struggles of kids her age, when her all-star older brother starts dating her best friend, which causes a rift in their friendship. Feeling more alienated than ever, Nadine strikes a friendship with an equally awkward guy, who secretly has a crush on her.

The Edge of Seventeen is a very typical coming-of-age story that really only stands out thanks to the very talented Hailee Steinfeld.

The cast also features Kyra Sedgwick, Woody Harrelson, Blake Jenner, Haley Lu Richardson, and Hayden Szeto.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Not likely to leave a mark, the movie does provide a couple hours of mental diversion.
