THE GIST: African-American writer, civil rights activist, poet, and outspoken thinker James Baldwin wanted to write a book about the Black experience in America, interwoven with the stories of his friends and assassinated heroes Martin Luther King, Medgar Evers, and Malcolm X. This is the story of his unfinished manuscript.
I Am Not Your Negro should be required viewing in every school in America.
It is not always easy to watch because of the brutality on full display, but this is the reality that Black Americans have experienced from the beginning of this grand experiment in democratic ideals, which makes it even more compelling viewing, in my opinion.
Unfortunately, this is still the reality for Black Americans today.
THE BOTTOM LINE: No matter how much you think you know about the history of America, this documentary will undoubtedly teach you something. Please, watch it.
