THE GIST: Kubo is a young boy who cares for his ill mother as best he can. They live in a cave and his mother always warns him not to venture out at night because her evil witch sisters and her estranged father, who took Kubo's left eye when he was little, are always searching for him in order to take his remaining eye. When a spirit from the past reappears in pursuit of its vendetta, Kubo is forced to go on a quest to find his late samurai father's legendary suit of armor.Kubo and the Two Strings is a very original animated movie from the same creative team behind the very funny The Boxtrolls.
It was nominated for both a Best Animated Feature Film and a Best Visual Effects Oscar!
THE BOTTOM LINE: The movie is touching and interesting and layered, so don't let the classic animation style put you off. Definitely worth your time.
