Transformers: The Last Knight

THE GIST: When Optimus Prime finally arrives on a devastated Cybertron, Quintessa, one of the original creators, captures and corrupts him, turning him into Nemesis Prime. Quintessa's goal is to retrieve an ancient staff, which will allow Cybertron to strip Earth of its energy and life, and finally be reborn. Meanwhile, on Earth the Autobots are once again on the run from the government while the Decepticons mostly lie in wait.

Michael Bay's fifth installment in the franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight ups the ante by bringing the Transformers' former world to Earth's doorsteps and turning Optimus Prime evil, but ultimately he's just offering up a dazzling array of visual effects that simply embellish a by now easily predictable tale.

The movie is headlined once again by Mark Wahlberg, who does a decent job, but the real treat is obviously the arrival on the scene of Sir Anthony Hopkins, who's such a consummate actor, he raises the cachet of even a bash-'em-up-blow-'em-up spectacle such as this.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Well, there isn't much more to say. If you're interested in this title you're either a die-hard fan of the Transformers universe or are intrigued by the bombastic visual effects. I belong to the latter group and got what I was looking for.

Grade: 6.5
