The Wolverine

THE GIST: Logan pays a visit to an old acquaintance from WWII who's close to dying and requested his presence. The man offers Logan to rid him of the powers that have brought him strength and long life, but also pain and suffering. Logan refuses when it becomes clear the man wants the powers for himself, so he'll heal and never have to die. It won't be as easy as simply saying no, however.

A solo adventure for one of the most cherished among the X-Men, The Wolverine gives Hugh Jackman plenty of opportunities to stretch his claws, and he does so with gusto.

A new evil mutant, Viper, also shows a lot of promise for future development.

One thing I always enjoy are tales about superheros from before they became widely known, so the movie's opening is a cool treat.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Definitely recommended for X-Men fans, but with the locale being Japan, with ninjas, the Yakuza, and samurais, the film will also please any action-junkies out there.
