AVP: Alien vs. Predator

THE GIST: Satellite imagery reveals a massive pyramidal structure hidden underneath Antarctica. An expedition is dispatched at the same time that a Predator spaceship is on its way to Earth. The humans arrive at the pyramid first, but end up trapped inside, where they awake Alien cocoons waiting to hatch. The Predators arrive to hunt the Aliens, and the humans end up caught in between.

After the pathetic fiasco of Predator 2, someone actually came up with the radical idea of pitting the two meanest, most gruesome, human hunting creatures ever imagined against one another. The result is AVP: Alien vs. Predator, and while perhaps a bit excessive, it's overall still enjoyable.

The cast is led by Lance Henriksen and Sanaa Lathan, but other than for Raoul Bova's incredible good looks, is anyone really paying any attention to the acting? Or the humans, for that matter.

THE BOTTOM LINE: If you liked both original movies and their creatures, then a match-up might be kind of cool to watch. Good for a couple hours on edge.

Grade: 6.5
