Terminator Genisys

THE GIST: In 2029, leader of the resistance John Connor sends Kyle Reese back to 1984 to protect his mother, Sarah Connor, from a Terminator sent to kill her and therefore prevent John's existence. When Kyle arrives to his destination, he realizes something happened already that altered the timeline he's familiar with, so a new plan will have to be etched to save humanity's future.

Terminator Genisys is a fairly clever new chapter in the Terminator universe, one that skillfully straddles the line between re-imagining the original 1984 movie and being a sequel to it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger coolly dons his Terminator outfit again, but this time he's actually the good robot helping Emilia Clarke's Sarah.

Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese and Jason Clarke as adult John Connor both do a great job, flanked by J.K. Simmons, Matt Smith, Courtney B. Vance, and Byung-hun Lee as a mean T-1000.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Time travel is always such a complicated topic and it's easy to mess up, but Genisys gets it right. Wholly enjoyable.
