Transformers: Dark of the Moon

THE GIST: In their continual search and destroy operation against the Decepticons, the Autobots find out that NASA's missions to the Moon were really just a cover to investigate the Ark, a spacecraft believed lost from the time of the last Cybertron war that crashed there. Now the race is on to recover it and its secrets before the Decepticons do. But not all is as it seems.

The third movie in the franchise, Transformers: Dark of the Moon doesn't disappoint, bringing to life an intriguing story and the usual array of dazzling visual effects.

Shia LaBeouf is back once again, together with Josh Duhamel, John Turturro, and Kevin Dunn. This time, even bigger names are added to the casting, including Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, and Patrick Dempsey.

Unfortunately, the welcome departure of Megan Fox is undermined by the arrival of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who is just as stunningly beautiful and just as subpar an actress. I guess Michael Bay really likes his leading ladies to primarily look good.

THE BOTTOM LINE: After an unimpressive start with Transformers, Bay serves up a second sequel that's just as good as the first. Let's hope the trajectory continues.
