Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

THE GIST: Harry Potter's trials against Voldemort and his cohorts have taken a toll on him. Reluctantly back at Hogwarts, he joins Dumbledore in researching Voldemort's past for weaknesses and ways to eliminate his threat for good. Meanwhile, Harry finds a potions book with annotations on the margins that give him additional insights into more powerful and even dark and dangerous potions.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the adaptation of the second to last book in the series. The stories are getting darker and more dangerous as the stakes rise to almost unthinkable levels, with the final goodbye to a beloved character.

It is obvious that J.K. Rowling started writing the books for younger children but kept in mind that they were growing themselves and were therefore more than capable of handling darker and sadder fare as they went along than when they started reading the series.

Jim Broadbent, Evanna Lynch, and Frank Dillane are some of the new actors joining the series.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Engaging as always, this episode almost feels like a bridge between all that came before and the upcoming ending of the Potter saga. Very good.

Grade: 7.5
