Venom

THE GIST: Eddie is a hard-edged journalist who tries to get the dirt on a secretive biotechnology foundation only to end up losing his job and his fiance. After hitting rock-bottom, he is sneaked back in the foundation, where he comes across human bodies gruesomely bonded to Symbiote aliens. One of them attaches to Eddie, later turning him into Venom, a parasitic antihero. When Eddie finds out the foundation's CEO's plan is to unleash more of these Symbiotes on Earth's population, he uses his newfound powers to try and stop him.

One of Spider-Man's most famous villains, Venom gets his very own origin story and it's pretty cool.

Tom Hardy is perfectly cast as the hardened journalist turned unwilling super/antihero. He plays opposite Riz Ahmed, who is a mean bad guy.

THE BOTTOM LINE: This movie won't probably leave much of a mark on the comic book adaptations landscape, but it's still pretty entertaining.
