The River Wild

THE GIST: Gail is an expert rafter and guide. Going through a rough patch at home, she decides to go on a trip down a river she knows well with her husband, son, and dog. On the river, they meet a couple of guys who seem very friendly, until they pull a gun on them. They are robbers on the run from the police, with little experience navigating such treacherous waters, and force Gail to be their guide by threatening her family.

The River Wild is not an exceptional movie but it's still quite entertaining, and features some excellent white-water rafting action scenes.

Naturally, having Meryl Streep, David Strathairn, Kevin Bacon, John C. Reilly, and a very young Joseph Mazzello doesn't hurt.

THE BOTTOM LINE: This was a must-watch for me because of Ms. Streep, but it's certainly a good movie that's fun to watch.

Grade: 6.5
