Ant-Man

THE GIST: Having spent time in jail for burglary, Scott Lang is unable to find any stable employment, which his ex-wife requires for him to be able to see their daughter. Desperate, Lang agrees to do one more supposedly lucrative heist, but is stumped when the only item in the vault he breaks into is a bizarre looking suit. Then, he is caught by the suit's creator, Dr. Hank Pym, who ends up recruiting him.

Ant-Man belongs to the stable of comic-book characters created by Marvel Comics that never rose to the gargantuan fame of Iron Man, Spider-Man, or Captain America.

Marvel Studios, nonetheless, decided to give it the cinematic treatment and the results are pretty solid for a second-tier superhero.

The perennially genial Paul Rudd dons the miniaturizing uniform quite effortlessly. He's joined by Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Bobby Cannavale, Anthony Mackie, and Michael Peña, excellent as his sidekick.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Never discount a little known superhero and above all never bet against Marvel's magic touch. Ant-Man is fun, funny, engaging, and energetic. A very good introduction in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
