Avengers: Infinity War

THE GIST: Thanos firmly believes that the universe's finite resources cannot be enough to sustain all the life in it, so he decides to collect all five Infinity Stones in order to use their collective powers to randomly wipe out half of all living beings in the cosmos. One by one, he gets closer and closer to achieving his goal. Will the Avengers be able to stop his nefarious and misguided plan before it's too late?

Avengers: Infinity War represents the beginning of the end of Marvel Studios' first Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) development cycle. The cycle included three phases; the third phase pretty much ends with Avengers: Endgame, which constitutes part two of this movie.

Infinity War is a real marvel for a variety of reasons: the stakes don't get any higher than this; it features one of the baddest bad guys ever in Josh Brolin's Thanos; it brings together all of the superheroes we've come to love in the past 10 years of MCU movies; it features a staggering array of cutting edge and eye popping visual effects; it offers a compelling story that is well written and perfectly brings together all the different stories previously told; and finally, (SPOILERS HERE) it dares to do the unthinkable by killing off about half of its cast of good guys.

THE BOTTOM LINEInfinity War is a must see for any movie lover, whether they like comic book adaptations or not, because it's just stunningly good. Naturally, coming on the heels of almost two dozen previous movies, a newbie might lack some context, and I would strongly encourage watching the others as well, but this one is the epitome of the superhero movie.
