It Follows

THE GIST: A casual sex encounter reveals itself to be the conduit through which a curse is passed from one person to another. The last person to get the curse is then slowly but inexorably followed by IT, a murderous entity that only they can see and can take the appearance of anyone. To get rid of the curse, you have to have sex with someone else, but if they get killed by IT, the curse reverses back to you.

It Follows has a very basic premise, one clearly meant as a hook for bored teenagers on summer break, but a well structured script ensures a successful horror film.

Maika Monroe is quite good in the part of the terrorized girl who's taken advantage of and has to find a way to survive. Olivia Luccardi, Keir Gilchrist, Jake Weary, Daniel Zovatto, and Lili Sepe also star.

THE BOTTOM LINE: A good horror movie is pretty hard to find, so I'm all too happy to recommend this one. It's fun and scary in equal parts.
