Mission: Impossible III

THE GIST: On the eve of settling down with the woman he loves, Ethan Hunt is called back into action to save a former trainee, who's been abducted by the evil Owen Davian. Things go wrong, and suspicions grow of a mole in the agency. Furthermore, Davian makes things personal when he goes after Hunt's wife.

J.J. Abrams, the savior of many franchises it seems, takes the reins of the third episode of Mission: Impossible, and promptly rights the boat, after the crappy outing that was Mission: Impossible II.

A great baddie Philip Seymour Hoffman, plus Billy Crudup and Laurence Fishburne all add heft, and Simon Pegg is a wonderful addition with his comic touch.

THE BOTTOM LINE: A solid third episode for this now established franchise that runs on all cylinders but also shows its heart.

Grade: 7
