Godzilla: King of the Monsters

THE GIST: A rogue guerrilla group attacks Monarch, the secretive agency studying the world's ancient monsters, releasing a mighty, three-headed one into the wild, which is soon followed by many others. There might be only one who can face-off against them: Godzilla.

Godzilla has been part of the culture for many decades now, and there have been several big screen adaptations of its stories. My first experience, the movie from 1998, was pretty bad, but the one from 2014 was quite the opposite.

The latest film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, is closer to the latter, thankfully, offering up a smorgasbord of monster against monster against humans action-fest bathed in some of the most spectacular visual effects I've ever seen.

A good cast that includes Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Ken Watanabe, Ziyi Zhang, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, and Thomas Middleditch helps moving the story along when the main attractions aren't onscreen.

THE BOTTOM LINE: If you're in the mood for a sci-fi movie with a nice helping of action and generalized mayhem, I think you found a good match.
